..with nary a macro lens at hand, the best way to get a close up shot is to use the longest focal length you have.. i forgot where i got that tip, but it works for me.. here’s a red tulip (i can’t really identify what variant it is though..)
Month: May 2009
break away
..oops, broke the theme.. lol! i’m jumping over it to have this one instead..
..yesterday and today’s image got me thinking about a new theme that’s cold and metallic.. let’s see how long i can keep this up..
..this here’s taken while i was rummaging the trash for foodies, i’m a freegan.. didn’t you know that? hehe..
waiting
..in a city as big as nyc (or any big city for that matter), how often do you experience this kind of isolation? what do you do when you find yourself immersed in it? well, for starters, you could whip out that camera of yours and start shooting of course.. ;D
waiting for light trails
..i remember waiting for some trains to pass by for me to catch some light trails from this perspective, but my patience was running thin, so here’s the dark underbelly of the manhattan bridge..
stargate pillars
..some pillars from the ny state pavilion in flushing, queens..
..still from the green themed post, here’s a woman chilling under a cherry blossom tree..
..continuing on with the green theme, a kid nonchalantly lounging on the grass..
..take a break, have a seat..
crowded
..i make it a point to take note of what i’m taking a shot of, be it a location or an object.. i think i failed this time, all i know is that this is in the ‘european sculpture & decorative arts’ section of the met..
*..update..
based on a hint by Chris, i was able to gather this information below from The Met’s site.. thanks, Chris! 🙂

..i remember sitting down by that bench for 30+ minutes.. can’t remember why though..
street view
..what do you do when you wanna capture manhattan a-la vincent laforet but can’t justify the moolah to get a ‘copter? get up the tallest building you can find and dangle your camera out the ledge, and voila.. (just make sure to wrap the strap around your wrist..)
..this here’s looking up the north face of the empire state building..
..seeing that soccer is not among the top sports played in north america (i just googled it), i guess it’s wise to bring the game to the crowd for them to appreciate it..
..moving on, i posted a link a few days ago about “participating” in the NYPH (NY Photo Festival) 2009.. well, i got an email a while ago and one of my images were shown via slideshow and they took a picture of it and sent it to me.. yay! (you’ll have to excuse me, i get pleased easily.. ;D )
..i’m no expert in soccer so i’ll just call this move a crossover (just like in basketball)
..imagine if they played this at wall street while wearing suits, now that’d be cool..
*..i’ve updated the title, apparently, this move’s called a regate.. (thanks to albert) 😀
..yeah, i know.. cheesy title yet again.. i’m much too preoccupied with the lakers game to think of something catchy.. that’s as catchy as it can be..
verrazano
..same time, same place (give or take a few feet) where i got this..
promenade
..”golden hour” sunlight on bricks..
..shifting gears from “earth week” (those nature-oriented photos i’ve been putting up lately) and going back to the thing i like most, concrete.. 😀 here’s another take of grand central terminal.. previous one is found here..
..here’s another cardinal shot without the freaky leaves effect.. this time, he’s striking a pose.. i find these birds amusing.. they seem to be outgoing in that they seem to get bored and try to play catch with other birds..
..i’m not particularly keen on flowers, birds and stuff so i just post them here with weird titles in the hope that someone will be able to identify them.. i was thinking of “fuzzy wuzzies” but that was just too flowery..
..here’s where a reticulating screen comes in handy.. or you can go belly flop near dog poo.. hehe.. just kidding..
..thanks to whatbird.com i was able to figure out what this was.. this image above was taken shortly after getting home for lunch when wifey pointed out a weird looking bird perched in the middle of the lake for hours.. this image below was taken by wifey..
..i guess i surprised him, he does look petrified.. 😀
The Double-crested Cormorant has a large range, estimated globally at 3,200,000 kilometers. It is native to the nations of North America and many island nations and has been seen in various countries throughout Europe. This bird prefers wetlands and neritic or coastal marine ecosystems. The global population of this bird is estimated to be 1,100,000 to 2,200,000 individuals and it does not appear to meet population decline criteria that would necessitate inclusion on the IUCN Red List. The current evaluation status of the Double-crested Comorant is Least Concern. read more..
..another awesome shot by wifey.. and if you’re wondering if we got mutant trees, i’d tell you no.. i just did a selective color thingamajig to make the birdy more prominent, it’s hard to tell where it is with all the green leaves around it.. even i had a hard time finding these birds camouflaged in these trees but wifey had no problem locating them.. talk about good eyesight, i guess i should eat my veggies too..
..okay, here’s more from a mini-series of wildlife we happened to see while strolling around our place.. it’s blue, it’s a bird, so i’ll call it a blue bird, correct? 😀
..yep, it’s that Lionel Richie song.. and nope, i have no idea (again) what this frog is.. help me out wouldja? ;D
..still from last year’s event, here’s a cosplayer.. i didn’t know what character she was so i just picked this image with her back to me..
..what happens when you leave your camera with the paparazzi lens at home with the wifey.. surprise, surprise, you’ll just have a bunch of awesome wildlife photos the next time you load your CF card to your computer..
..extend your positive comments to her why dontcha? ;D oh, and btw, i have no idea what kind bird this is..
how to kill a mockingbird 1/2
..wifey saw this when we were going out to do the laundry.. some kind of bird hanging on a fishing string noose.. it’s sad, but how often do you see a bird on a noose, eh?
..i’ll be posting two images today, i don’t wanna keep this image here all day, it’s too depressing..
