..it’s the first time i’ve been up close with these kinds of ships so bear with me as i post more from the trip.. ;P
USS Alabama (BB-60), a South Dakota-class battleship, was the sixth completed ship named Alabama of the United States Navy, however she was only the third commissioned ship with that name. Alabama was commissioned in 1942 and served in World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. She was decommissioned in 1947 and assigned to the reserve duty. She retired in 1962. In 1964, Alabama was taken to Mobile Bay and opened as a museum ship the following year. The ship was added to the National Historic Landmark registry in 1986.
..if you’re a fan of these ships (or just like to gawk at them), i suggest you swing by Hess site, he’s doing a series on USS Lexington.. we’re having a “gun show”.. 😀

Such a cool angle in this shot. I really like your composition here. The sky adds an almost dramatic mood…
lovely dramatic sky. how come one is allowed to shhot a war ship? is it not banned there?
Impressive…I like the angle and the perspective!
Yep; dramatic and cool effect this vintage color… Same for me, I do not know what would be in charge of this monster of steel. I think I would order to blast canons all the time…
Like your processing here, such a dominating presence itlooks to be.
yeh! love these old ships!!!!!!!!! I gotta go checkout the Battleship New Jersey … I think it’s docked near Philly ….
Gorgeous shot and frame Rian! The processing really adds to the mood…bravo!
niiice. love the sky!
So it is the USS Alabama:-) Love that gorgeous sky in the background. The color is delicious.
oooh this is my FAVE of this series, love the wide angle, and the green tones, and that sky!!! well done you!!!
Terrific wide angle effect especially for this subject!
I bet those guns are loud. Nice blues.
Wow.. what a brilliant shot, Rian . Such a cool angle and super, really super processing !!!
The old school Koachrome / Insta-matic processing on this shot is very, very cool. I dig it. The shot angle/perspective is great as well…lends a bit of the scale of the ship to the eye. Nice one!
Impressive gun set up on this ship. I’m so inexperienced with ships I would be gawking around and probably not taking pictures. Nice image.
Great angle … and impressive demonstration of power.
Love the cross processing (?) here-it really compliments this great wide angle shot!
I saw this photo and immediately saw the words in comic “BANG!” nice work.
Great shot! The hard metal of the ship and guns such a contrast to the soft clouds. Superb sky – so dramatic.
I really enjoyed this series. My brother served in the US Navy on a battleship/destroyer. He said it was the best time of his life.
There is something about how the blue if reflecting off the gray that give this a retro look. Loving the sky. Excellent.
Wow incredible angle here! They look very powerful!
I like the history behind this thing, great!
this is a nice series Rian. i would have gone there and seen not much to photograph – maybe a few rivets ; ) – but your images are really interesting and give a good sense of the power in the ship and the guns.
